Founding

Who is behind it

Fanao Solutions was founded in 2024 by Victor Vaissié, an engineer graduated from ENSTA Paris. It was during his studies at this former "École du génie maritime" that he truly discovered sailing, alongside a very multidisciplinary course.

This versatility finds its application in the trade of measurement: instrumenting a part, conditioning the signal, calibrating it so that it gives an accurate value and not just a number, then putting it to use. It is as much a matter of electronics and software as of mechanics, and it is the foundation of everything Fanao Solutions does.

Fanao Solutions, registered in 2024, first worked as a design consultancy, for third parties, on measurement problems. The company then redirected itself to design and produce the load pin under its own name.

This early period explains the way we work today. We start from a part that exists and a precise need, because that is how we work best.

Origin

Why these load pins exist

The project began with a question, and it did not come from us.

A rigging manufacturer wanted to know the tension in the rigging it fitted. Sensors already existed, but confined to racing and very large yachts, at prices unrelated to an average cruising boat.

The second obstacle mattered as much as the first: nothing was designed to fit an existing range. The supplier's equipment had to be adopted, not the other way round. A manufacturer who wanted this capability in its own references had no answer.

That question already contained the essence of what we do. A rigging professional, working in cruising, who wants the measurement in their own equipment rather than in someone else's.

It deserved more than a one-off answer. It did not concern one manufacturer in particular, and it called for a product, not a service.

Durability

What happens if we stop

Fanao Solutions is a young and small company, in a sector populated by long-established players. You need to plan for the long term, to assess the risks, and so you may be wondering: will they still be here tomorrow?

The answer does not rest on a promise of longevity, which no one can seriously give. It rests on the way the load pin is designed.

Local measurement: The load pin measures locally. It does not communicate with any server.
No subscription: It requires no account to create, no software to install, no payment to renew every year. We deliver the load pin once, and it works.
Calibration: Its calibration belongs to it and is not kept by us.
Reversibility: Finally, the load pin involves no other change to the rigging. It can be replaced again at any time by a standard axle or any other solution, without friction.

Above all, a fitted load pin can be read without us. If Fanao Solutions stopped operating tomorrow, the load pins already installed would continue to measure exactly as the day before, with the same values, with no action required.

This is a design choice we stand by, because a rigging component is replaced on a scale of decades, not years, and because a boat owner should not have to depend on their supplier to read a part they have bought.
